Hai Guys, I am Venet Lewis, Son of Late Anthon P. Lewis. Love this beuatiful place. I was born here, educated in S.M.S. Brahmavar. I always remember and cherish my young days, particularly fishing in the River Sita. I ate lot of fresh fish from this river (Shevte, Cat fish, Lady Fish, Kite Fish and ofcourse, Crabs. In those days water was so clean and it was a paradise to swimmers. But now, alas! Chicken shop owners in Brahmavar & Barkur and in surrounding areas are throwing the leftovers and waste in this river, throuwing from Barkur Bridge. I wrote a letter to Udayavani, about 4-5 years back. But nothing has happend. In whole river you will find chicken feathers. It has polluted the water and sand in the river. It not stopped, it may lead to deadly pollution not only in the river but also in surrounding area. I fail to understand what the local administration is doing. They can stop it very easily. One more thing is that people who catch cobras, release them at the beginning of the bridge at matpady end. It resulted in unsafe feeling in the minds of the people. They can rlease the snakes in jungles. The third point is that people are removing the sand from the river for making money. This is also creating problem. Nobody knows how can the authorities give permission to dig the river by removing sand without considering the safety of the people living there. If the permission is not there then it is an illegal activity for making money. I hope the authorities will check this. My son had taken his Maharashtrian friends to Mangalore, they like our area very much, most beautiful. Will the beauty will remain for the years to come? venet lewis (Vennette Lewis) When I was yet a small boy, Tigers used to roam in the night. There was lot of thick forest in surrounding areas. I still remember I big Bengal tiger killed by Late Mr. Benses Ammanna. In our neighbourhood once one wild deer was caught alive by the people. Now there is not forest. It pains my heart.
